Case Study and Selective Review of the Literature

Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, refers to a range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication, as well as by unique strengths and differences.

We now know that there is not only one type of autism but many caused by different combinations of genetic and environmental influences. The term “spectrum” reflects the wide variation in challenges and strengths possessed by each person with autism.

Autism’s most-obvious signs tend to appear between 2 and 3 years of age. In some cases, it can be diagnosed as early as 18 months.

Chiropractic Has Proven to Reduce Autism Symptoms

Early intervention can improve outcomes, and chiropractic adjustments have proven to be very effective in reducing autism symptoms. Read this case study of a 6-year-old boy with autism and how chiropractic manipulations made it possible for him to start focus socially and stop using medication.

Abstract of Study

Objective

To describe and discuss 6 weeks of subluxation-based chiropractic care in a 6-year-old boy, who was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Clinical Features

A 6-year-old boy presents with aggressive behavior, hindered social and physical activities, poor eating habits, and sleep difficulties. The boy was previously diagnosed with Autism by a neurologist.

Interventions

The patient was assessed for subluxations and adjusted using the Diversified Technique (the Diversified Technique entails adjustments with a high velocity, low-amplitude thrust delivered by hand and possibly with assistance from a table or block).

The 6-year-old boy was provided 15 treatments over the course of 6 weeks with subluxation-based chiropractic care. The young patient was assessed using a thermal scan, static surface electromyography, motion and static palpation.

Outcomes

The results from the case study included decreased time taken to fall asleep, improved sleep quality and sleep time, a decrease in aggressive behavior, and an increase in alertness. Also, increased focus and agreement to finish school-related work.

Patient Was Able to Discontinue Use Of the Medications; Risperidone and Tenex

Conclusion

This case study demonstrates the reduction of ASD symptoms and impairments with the use of subluxation-based chiropractic care (sources: chiropracticpediatrics.sharepoint.com, autismspeaks.org & firstchiropracticcenter.com).

Your Smart Phone Is More Damaging to Your Neck than You Think

Your Smart Phone Is More Damaging to Your Neck than You Think

Your Smart Phone Is More Damaging to Your Neck than You Think - Visit Nachmias Chiropractic Bayridge and Chelsea

Text neck or turtle neck are the terms used to describe neck pain and damage sustained from looking down on your cell phone, tablet, or other wireless devices, too frequently and far too long.

Bending your neck to look down has been a problem for many years and does not occur only when texting, but pain symptoms related to this bad posture have increased tremendously the last decade due to over-use of smart phones, tablets and lap tops.

We all have to look down to read, depending on the position we are in. The optimal position when reading, texting or browsing the Internet, would be keeping the book or equipment at eye-level position. Of course this would be the ideal position in a perfect world. However, if you are not a chiropractor or physiotherapist, you may not be aware of this.

The problem with texting or browsing your phone is that it adds one more activity that causes us to look down. Also, people tend to do it for much longer periods in this modern technique era with cell phones, iPads, and lap tops that sometimes work better and more efficient than regular stationary computers.

The especially alarming factor is that young growing children could possibly cause permanent damage to their cervical spines, which could lead to lifelong neck pain.

What Are the Symptoms Associated with Text Neck?

Text neck most commonly causes neck pain, headaches or migraines, and soreness. In addition, looking down at your cell phone or tablet too much each day can lead to:

  • Upper back pain, ranging from a chronic nagging pain to sharp severe upper back muscle spasms.
  • Shoulder pain and tightness, possibly resulting in painful shoulder muscle spasm.
  • If a cervical nerve becomes pinched, pain and possibly neurological symptoms can radiate down your arm and into your hand.

In fact, research has shown that craning the neck over a smart phone or cell phone texting, tweeting, checking Facebook or Google+, can exert an extra 60 pounds of weight on the head of an adult, leading to potential spinal problems and maybe even surgery.

The farther your head falls forward, the more dramatically the weight increases on your neck and spine (source: spine-health.com).

Good Advice to Prevent Text Neck

Like we touched base on in the beginning of this article, there are some preventative measurements you can take to avoid text neck:

  1. Hold your cell phone at eye level as much as possible. The same holds true for all screens; laptops and tablets should also be positioned so the screen is at eye level and you do not have to bend your head forward or look down to view it.
  2. Take frequent breaks from your phone and laptop throughout the day. For example, set a timer or alarm that reminds you to get up and walk around every 20 to 30 minutes.
  3. If you work in an office, make sure your screen is set up so that when you look at it you are looking forward with your head positioned squarely in line with your shoulders and spine.

Find out more information about the negative effects of texting here.

How Can Chiropractic Help Text Neck?

With the help of chiropractic adjustments your spine can be re-aligned back to its normal position, which will relieve you from pain, headache, stiffness, and soreness. If you are hunching down frequently because of work or just love being on your phone, it is highly recommend visiting a chiropractor for regular check ups and spinal alignments.

Tired or Flu Symptoms After Chiropractic? Nachmias Chiropractic Explains Why!

Tired or Flu Symptoms After Chiropractic? Nachmias Chiropractic Explains Why!

Tired or Flu Symptoms After Chiropractic? Nachmias Chiropractic Explains Why!Feeling particularly tired after a chiropractic session is very common. In fact, it is a good thing! In this issue we are going to present a common reaction to chiropractic treatments, called toxic release.

After visiting the chiropractor, especially if it is your first time, you may experience what chiropractors prefer to call a toxic release. This will appear as slight cold or flu-like symptoms and/or tiredness. It is not due to the clinic being unhygienic or from the chiropractic adjustment itself, but from a condition called toxic relief.

What Is Toxic Release?

Up to 20 percent of patients experience this condition after receiving chiropractic adjustments, and although it sounds scary, it is actually a positive reaction. When undergoing chiropractic manipulations, the toxins in our bodies are being released. After treatment the toxins leave the body as waste when visiting the restroom. This is positive for the body and makes it healthier and stronger.

Unfortunately, the expelling of these toxins can cause some temporary unpleasant symptoms. Just know that it is only your body adjusting to the expulsion of all negative energy, and the symptoms will soon pass. Some of the symptoms you may experience if your body does go through toxic release are:

  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Night sweats
  • Tight muscles and/or
  • Diarrhea

Say good bye to body toxins! Book your chiropractic treatment with Dr. Adam Nachmias – Nachmias Chiropractic and improve your body’s energy flow and functions with one treatment only.

Improvement in Parkinson’s Disease Symptoms Following Upper Cervical Chiropractic Adjustment

Improvement in Parkinson’s Disease Symptoms Following Upper Cervical Chiropractic Adjustment

Improvement in Parkinson’s Disease Symptoms Following Upper Cervical Chiropractic Adjustment

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative brain disorder that progresses slowly in most people. Most people’s symptoms take years to develop, and they live for years with the disease.

In short, a person’s brain slowly stops producing a neurotransmitter called dopamine. With less and less dopamine, a person has less and less ability to regulate their movements, body and emotions.

Parkinson’s disease itself is not fatal. However, complications from the disease are serious; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) rated complications from PD as the 14th top cause of death in the United States.

How Can Chiropractic Care Help Parkinson’s?

The study below shows proof of a decrease in symptoms of Parkinson’s disease after being treated with chiropractic care. Find out more by reading the study:

Abstract of Study

Objective:
The objective of this case study is to report on the positive health outcomes of a 76-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease undergoing chiropractic care for correction of vertebral subluxations and postural distortions.

Clinical Features:
A 76-year-old male presented with a primary complaint of Parkinson’s disease, with symptoms of right-sided tremors, memory loss, balance issues, constant leg pain, occasional poor circulation, and decreased muscular strength. The patient was formally diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease by his neurologist.

Intervention and Outcomes:
A Quantum Spinal Mechanics 3 (QSM3) Method utilizes upper cervical radiographs, a supine leg check, digital posture measuring device and grid. The algorithm was applied in the correction of upper cervical vertebral subluxations and postural distortions. Positive outcomes included a more balanced atlas (C1) vertebrae in orthogonal positioning and an improvement in postural distortions over a course of six months. The patient’s signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease decreased.

Conclusion:
This case presents evidence of a link between vertebral subluxations, postural distortions and the expression of Parkinson’s disease and advocates that more research needs to be conducted for healthcare providers to best serve patients with neurodegenerative disorders (source: uppercervicalsubluxation.sharepoint & parkinson.org).

If you or a loved one suffers from Parkinson’s disease, you should definitely give chiropractic a try. There is nothing to lose, only a better health to gain.

The Secret of Chiropractic

The Secret of Chiropractic

The Secret of Chiropractic - Nachmias Chiropractic Tells You the Truth

What is the secret of chiropractic you may wonder? How is it that the demand for a chiropractor is consistently increasing? That is exactly what we will tell you in this issue.

The answer lies in the power of chiropractic adjustments. Our days are filled with micro-stresses – meaning stresses placed upon our bodies that negatively affect how we function. These stresses can slowly wear down our body’s immunity – leaving us susceptible to disease and injury.

Let us present some actions that often cause micro-injuries, which potentially can lead to more severe injuries:

  1. Sitting down at a computer desk most of the day. This is actually the worst scenario for the body. It is not made for sitting down a whole day and the sitting position puts enormous pressure on the spine.
  2. Repeating a single motion several times throughout the day.
  3. Lifting heavy objects without thinking of correct lifting posture and bending the knees. Have a look at our Back Care Program to see how to properly lift objects:

Chiropractic adjustments prevent these severe injuries by correcting the cause of micro-injuries before they become severe.

Furthermore, chiropractic adjustments also increase immunity (that in turn can fight illness, allergies, stress, depression, insomnia etc.), physical performance, and eliminate pain.

What Happens During A Chiropractic Adjustment?

Micro-injuries cause the bones in the body to get locked up or fixated, which limits our range of motion. The bones remain locked up or hypomobile when we move and bend which can cause pain. During the adjustments your chiropractor applies light pressure to the joints to free up the vertebra and restore motion.

Also, the joints above and below the hypomobile joint get compromised as well. They will bend too much in trying to compensate for the immobile joints. This is called hypermobile. By restoring motion to the joints that are locked up, chiropractors restore health and function to the body.

Why the Popping Sound? What Is It?

The “popping sound” that can be heard during chiropractic adjustments is the release of three types of gasses; oxygen, nitrogen and CO2. They create the sound when they are opening up the joint. In fact, it is very similar to the effect of removing the cork from a champagne bottle and just as pleasant.

When the gasses are released, the fluid within the joints lubricates the joint surfaces restoring movement and nerve function. The same thing happens when one of the joints in your fingers is locked up and you crack your knuckles. You hear a ‘pop’ and you feel instant relief (source: fulkchiropractic.com).

Conclusion the Secret of Chiropractic

The secret with chiropractic is the fantastic health benefits chiropractic adjustments bring to the table. A chiropractic treatment is a non-invasive way of treating the cause of common symptoms. Why go under the knife when you can heal your body naturally?

More and more people are discovering this and stay faithful to their chiropractors. Patients who experience chiropractic care are also quick to recommend the treatment to friends and family. As more and more people experience the benefits of chiropractic, the demand for this natural form of healthcare continues to rise.

Patients Are Amazed How Good They Feel After A Treatment!

Depending on how long your joints have been locked up and how severe the injury determines how quickly you will feel relief, but most people feel better right away.

The saying goes “health is wealth”, so treasure your health while you have it. Protect it, and prevent injuries by allowing your body to heal itself.

Painful Menstrual Cycles – PMS & Dysmenorrhea – Chiropractic Can Help!

Painful Menstrual Cycles – PMS & Dysmenorrhea – Chiropractic Can Help!

Painful Menstrual Cycles - PMS & Dysmenorrhea – Chiropractic Can Help! Nachmias ChiropracticEvery month, the female body goes through a series of changes that serve to prepare it for a possible pregnancy. For all women, hormone levels go through a series of peaks and valleys in a 28-day cycle (on average). It is precisely coordinated with only one end result in mind: to create and birth a child.

The 3 main processes of the menstrual cycle are:

  1. Ovulation
  2. Fertilization
  3. Implantation

When everything goes as planned, each month an egg (ovum) is released from the ovary. The uterus prepares for a potentially-fertilized egg to be implanted in its nutrient-thick walls.

It takes about three days for the ovum to make its way through the fallopian tubes (during which time it may be fertilized by sperm) and into the uterus, where the actively dividing group of cells is to be implanted.

If fertilization does not occur within this window of time, the brain and body receive signals to start this cycle all over again. As this happens, the inner lining of the uterus is released, triggering the bleeding stage of the menstrual cycle, which typically lasts about three to seven days. This process is though on the female body in a number of ways.

What Is Dysmenorrhea and PMS?

Even though the menstrual cycle is a natural physiological phenomenon, it can be extremely painful for some women – both physically and emotionally.

When a woman experiences severe physical pain and cramping during the menstrual cycle, she is diagnosed with dysmenorrhea. However, if she experiences a combination of physical and emotional symptoms just prior to the onset of menses, then she often gets diagnosed with pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS).

Up to 90% of all young women are estimated to experience some form of dysmenorrhea. Another 75% to 85% of females will suffer from various degrees of PMS during their lifetime. Women have to suffer a lot in regards to menstrual cycles.

How Can Chiropractic Help PMS & Dysmenorrhea?

If you are a woman, you know how painful menstrual cycles can be. Often, we accept the pain and emotional suffering as being a “normal” state, and are just trying to suffer it through until the next cycle, when we in fact not have to!

Low back pain and stomach cramps are a common combo during menses. The back pain is often displaced pain from the reproductive organs and these organs depend upon a healthy nervous supply from the lower spinal column. If the nerves threads between the reproductive organs and the spine are somehow blocked, it can lead to menstrual pain, cramping, and irregularities.

Putting the lower spine back into proper alignment with chiropractic adjustments will relieve the pressure on these nerves going to the reproductive organs, relieving both menstrual and lower back pain.

A healthy nervous system boosts the overall immune system. It also ensures that the body can cope with emotional difficulties like PMS, stress, and depression, since it allows for a proper serotonin release.

Evidence Supporting Chiropractic Care for Problematic Menstrual Cycles

Most medical practitioners suggest anti- inflammatory or analgesic medications to help ease the pain caused by these problems. This will only reduce the pain symptoms temporarily, but does not continuously help your menstrual cycles get easier.

Anti-inflammatory medications can also come with other unwanted side effects, such as even more stomach pain due to a reaction to strong chemicals.

A recent study of 13 female chiropractic patients with dysmenorrhea got helped using a specific chiropractic technique referred to as the drop-table method. Over two menstrual cycles, subjects received three treatments per cycle, specifically adjusting spinal restrictions in the lumbosacral area of the spine.

They all responded favorably to treatment, with significant reductions in back pain and general abdominal pain (sources: up-chiro.com & horst-chiropractic.com).

Can Allergies Be Treated with Chiropractic Care?

Can Allergies Be Treated with Chiropractic Care?

Can Allergies Be Treated with Chiropractic Care? Nachmias Chiropractic

This time of year can be difficult for many allergy sufferers. Instead of enjoying the warmth and sunny days, people with allergies have to deal with runny noses, itchy eyes and sneezing. If you want to find out how you can get allergy relief – continue reading.

Hay fever erupts this time of year. Millions of people suffer from this condition, which causes the body to become hypersensitive to pollen and other environmental substances. Allergies cause a number of irritating symptoms that can make life miserable.

Hay fever is one of many allergies. An allergy is a hypersensitivity reaction: when you react to a substance that is considered to be harmless to most other people. Skin reactions, breathing issues, and irritations to the sinuses are some of the most frequent allergy symptoms.

“In developed countries, allergies are the most common cause of chronic illness—and they’re on the rise. As many as 40 percent of the world’s people suffer from at least one allergic condition, and in some countries allergies have increased by as much as 50 percent over the past decade” The Palmer Community.

The 5 most common allergies include:

  1. Pollen
  2. Grass
  3. Dust mites
  4. Mold
  5. Weeds

What Causes Allergic Reactions?

Your immune system recognizes and removes harmful substances from your body. Inflammation, sneezing, coughing, and vomiting are methods the immune system uses to expel any dangerous substance ingested by you.

However, an allergic response is when your immune system activates against a substance that is considered harmless for most people, but not for allergy suffers. What happens in a person with allergy is that the body interprets that this particular substance is potentially harmful to the body, which causes an allergic reaction.

The Body Tries to Remove Harmful Substances

When an allergic reaction starts, the body activates special immune cells called mast cells. On the surface of their membranes, these mast cells possess receptors that recognize substances considered either harmful or helpful to the body.

When harmful substances are detected, the cells release histamines. These chemicals sensitize the body to react and the body tries to remove all harmful substances by sneezing, coughing, etc.

Why Do Some People Get Allergies?

So far, no one really knows why some people get allergies and some not, but recent studies indicate that people that are hypersensitive get allergies.

Researchers have found that if you have a high sensitivity to stress, your body also reflects this sensitivity. The body and mind are connected entities. In fact, stress and allergies provoke similar inflammatory responses—and studies have shown that stress exacerbates the immune system’s already hyperbolic response to allergens.

Chronic stress also wears out the adrenal glands, which produce the anti-inflammatory hormone cortisol. Without enough cortisol to subdue the allergic response, symptoms can become even more severe.

Another theory is that an allergic reaction is an interpretation of a person’s environment. In order to interpret, your body must first get information, which is gathered by the nervous system. If your nervous system is dysfunctional, then the information interpreted will be altered, and this makes you vulnerable to abnormal reactions like allergies.

Can Chiropractic Treat Allergies?

If you have researched what chiropractic care is all about before, you already know the beneficial effects of chiropractic adjustments on the nervous system.

It is well documented by now that chiropractic:

  • Strengthens the immune system
  • Regulates stress hormones, and
  • Supports the respiratory system

Therefore, it is not surprising that many chiropractic patients report a reduction of allergy symptoms when treated regularly for vertebral subluxations.

Misalignment or dysfunctional movements of vertebra can cause a focal irritation in the spine, which then creates an abnormal signal received by the nervous system. When this aberrant signal occurs along the same pathway required for the input of normal environmental messages, the body may not interpret the information correctly. When this occurs, it can result in an allergic reaction (source: upchiro.com & blogs.palmer.edu).

If you suffer allergies, you should definitely consider chiropractic as one of your potential options for allergy relief. Dr. Adam Nachmias – Nachmias Chiropractic has more that 26 years experience of treating allergy patients. Dr. Adam has successfully treated their allergy symptoms.

10 Reasons to Why You Should See a Chiropractor

10 Reasons to Why You Should See a Chiropractor

10 Reasons to Why You Should See a Chiropractor - Nachmias Chiropractic

When you see the word chiropractic you probably think about pain relief. Yes, that is correct but chiropractic care was not meant for pain relief from the beginning. In fact, it was founded in 1895 by a man named D.D. Palmer when he adjusted a deaf man and managed to get his hearing back!

Chiropractic care has so many more health benefits than just pain relief. It is actually preventative health care. Take a look at this list of 10 reasons to why you should see a chiropractor and find out more:

1. Chiropractic Stimulates the Immune System

The immune system interacts directly with the nervous system affecting overall health. Obstructions with the signaling pathways between the nervous and the immune system impact the ability to heal adequately.

Chiropractic care is focusing on removing interference (blockages) on the nervous system, so that the body can properly repair itself at a genetic level and stimulate the immune system fully.

2. Chiropractic Ensures Wellness and
Prevent Illness

Chiropractic adjustments align the spine and allow the nervous system to flow freely in the body, hence treating underlying health problems and allows the body to heal itself.

For example, decompression exercises improve sleeping habits. Also, chiropractic therapy focuses on some of the first common symptoms of cancer; musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction, chronic headaches etc. In fact, chiropractic treatment has been shown to improve healing in cancer patients, as opposed to medication and other conventional therapies.

Chiropractic also functions as a natural pain reliever in cancer patients as well as patients with other pain symptoms.

3. Chiropractic Relieves Headaches and Migraines

Prior reason to why you should see a chiropractor takes us further into chiropractic care for headache and migraine relief. Many people suffer from frequent headaches that can dramatically impact their health and ability to maintain a good lifestyle.

Neck pressure and movement can exacerbate the severity of headaches caused by abnormal head positioning, such as hunching over at a computer or smartphone during most of the day. This puts enormous pressure on the neck and can be compared to a 40 lbs bag of potatoes on the neck.

Chiropractic therapy can remove obstructing structures causing the tightness in the back and strain on the spine. Receiving chiropractic care is an effective way to limit the occurrence of headaches and migraines, and also lessen the intensity when they do occur.

4. Elevates Sports Performance

Both athletes and non-athletes can benefit from sports-specific chiropractic. The focus lays on manipulating joints, soft tissue, and re-aligning the spine to increase overall performance and shorten recovery time.

Sport-specific chiropractic also prevents injuries such as; strains, sprains, and even concussions. Your chiropractor can teach you how to focus on the proper techniques for the respective sport you play – include stretching techniques that can reduce the occurrence of an injury, the severity of an injury, and a recommended rehabilitation time frame for healing.

5. Chiropractic Alleviates Allergies and Asthma

Both chiropractors and parents of children suffering from allergies, such as asthma, support the positive results of chiropractic. Studies also support that chiropractic care benefits patients by decreasing the amount of medication needed and unpleasant side effects.

Chiropractic patients suffer fewer asthma attacks and report an overall lessening of allergy symptoms leading to an improved quality of life.

How is this possible? Like already mentioned, chiropractic focuses on healing the nervous system, which in turn boosts the immune system. With a fully functional immune system, the body can fight allergies and asthma by itself.

6. Chiropractic for Pregnancy and Labor Relief

Throughout pregnancy, many women experience chronic back pain due to the changing weight distribution on the pelvis and joints. Pain and muscle spasms may increase the likelihood that a pregnant mother will struggle during labor and delivery.

Chiropractic focuses on balancing the muscles, pelvis, and ligaments during pregnancy to relieve pressure on the uterus. This treatment increases the likelihood that the child will be born via a preferable position, while lowering the risk of being born through cesarean section.

72 Percent of Women Report Finding Relief from Pain During Pregnancy and Labor Resulting from Chiropractic

7. Chiropractic Helps Chronic Pain

Low back pain affects more than 10% of the population globally, and is the most common occupational injury in the United States and Canada. North America ranks low back pain 6th amongst contributing factors for increased medical cost. Compared to conventional health management practices, chiropractic care is a low cost treatment and improves the healing of the entire body.

Doctors of chiropractic also focus on education, which is critical to reducing injuries, disability, care costs, and adverse side effects. Chiropractic therapy is also a patient preference for providing pain relief.

8. Chiropractic Normalizes Blood Pressure

Hypertension affects around 33% of Americans. Most hypertension patients will use medication to manage the condition, since that is the first option their doctor will offer.

These individuals should look to chiropractic instead. Chiropractic care can significantly control blood pressure. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to result in a decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings.

Chiropractors focus on the bone at the top of the neck in proximity to the brainstem which may be the reason for the impact on regulating blood pressure. Tests have shown that chiropractic care works as effectively at managing hypertension as at least two of the most commonly prescribed medications.

9. Chiropractic Eliminates Fatigue
and Reduces Stress

Fatigue and stress are common symptoms for many in today’s fast beat society. A professional chiropractic examination can determine why your nervous system is out of balance. Good spinal health often results in reduced stress levels and an increase in energy.

Chiropractic can even help treat depression, since it helps the body to naturally produce more serotonin.

10. Manages Behavioral and Learning Disabilities

Chiropractic procedures improve wellness and can help reduce hyperactivity and disruptive behaviors linked to ADHD and learning disabilities associated with autism.

Evidence supports that chiropractic treatment can better able a child to concentrate. In turn, it improves learning and behavior by limiting causes of agitation (sources: thetruthaboutcancer.com & slideshare.net).

Get Allergy Relief! Visit Dr. Adam Nachmias - Nachmias Chiropractic and get help with your allergy symptoms.Millions of people suffer from seasonal hay fever, which causes the body to become hypersensitive to pollen and other environmental substances. This condition causes a number of irritating symptoms that can make life miserable.

The number of people with allergies is increasing rapidly. Seasonal or not, all allergies are the result of an exaggerated response by the immune system to substances that are recognized as foreign.

In people with allergies, the immune system produces a specific antibody known as immunoglobulin E in response to pollen, pet dander, foods, dust, and other matters, which in turn produces the symptoms of allergic reactions.

At this time, the number of people affected by allergy symptoms is between 10-30% of the total population, and this number is increasing rapidly. For Americans, who suffer from nasal and seasonal allergies, the costs quickly add up. It is currently estimated that between doctor visits, prescriptions, and time missed from work, these allergies cost in excess of 3 billion each year.

However, With the Help of Chiropractic Care You Can Say Good Bye to Allergy Symptoms and Expensive Doctor Visits!

How Can We Claim So You May Think?

The reason behind our somewhat bold statement is the fact that the strength of both immune system and respiratory systems depends largely on proper communication between the brain and spinal cord. This communication is essential for all internal organs to function properly.

When there are interruptions in the communication between the brain and spinal cord, such as misalignments of the spine, the immunity may be compromised, and the body cannot fight allergy symptoms. This upper cervical joint irritation can exaggerate, or even produce allergic and asthmatic symptoms.

When manually adjusting the joints and soft tissue, it helps restore alignment, and re-opens the necessary pathways of communication between the brain and spine. In addition to promoting a stronger immune system, chiropractic adjustments may also help regulate the rush of histamine and amount of cortisol produced during high allergy seasons.

The majority of allergies involve release of inflammatory producing substances such as histamine. Adequate production of cortisol (an anti-inflammatory hormone produced by the adrenal gland) is necessary to combat this. Evidence has shown that many allergy sufferers have weak adrenal gland function.

What needs to be understood is that the adrenal gland is fed directly by the T9 spinal level nerve root, meaning once again that spinal misalignments can greatly impact allergic reactions (source: southeastchiro.com & upchiro.com).

Alleviation of Chronic Headaches by Correcting Lateral Head Translation Posture Using Chiropractic Care

Alleviation of Chronic Headaches by Correcting Lateral Head Translation Posture Using Chiropractic Care

Alleviation of Chronic Headaches by Correcting Lateral Head Translation Posture Using Chiropractic CareIn this issue we are going to present a study about chiropractic care and headache alleviation, but first let us go through some general information about headache and why you get it.

What is Headache?

Every year, more than 250 million work days are lost due to headaches. Headaches are one of the most common reasons for visiting the doctor.

Did You Know That the Brain Itself Cannot Feel Pain?

The reason why headaches are painful is because of the surrounding tissues, brain chemicals, blood vessels, and nerves that produce those pain signals.

There are many types and causes of headaches…. Muscle tension headache and migraines are by far the most common types of headaches. Sinus infections and other issues, such as high blood pressure, can also lead to headaches.

What Causes Headaches?

Headaches occur for a reason. A headache is your body’s way of signaling that something is not right. Nerve irritation is the leading cause of headaches for many sufferers.

Headache is very common in patients with chiropractic problems. Headaches can arise when the spinal bones in the neck are not supporting your head properly, which the results from the study below will prove. This can affect nerves, muscles and even the blood supply to your head.

Abstract of Study

Objective
To present a case of the alleviation of chronic headaches and neck pain following restoration of anterior to posterior symmetry to the cervico-thoracic spine, posture and subluxation using chiropractic & berry translation traction.

Clinical Features

A 55-year old female patient presented with chronic headaches, as well as neck and shoulder pain. Examination and radiography revealed forward head posture and lateral head translation posture consistent with vertebral subluxation.

Intervention & Outcome

The patient received chiropractic care including mirror image corrective exercises, adjustments and traction. Full spine spinal adjustments and drop table adjustments were also given.

After 36 Visits, Over a Period of 12 Weeks, the Patient Reported Complete Resolution of Headaches
and Neck Pain!

Cervical x-ray showed complete restoration of symmetry in the laterality of her head posture.

Conclusion

Our case study and other research suggest that correcting lateral head shift postures by chiropractic adjustments may restore the symmetry of the AP cervicothoracic spine and posture alignment, and improve neck pain and headache symptoms
